Highlights of the Week: 8/17-8/24

August 24, 2024

Here are some highlights I've been keeping track of to share:

  • Saturday: Did some front yard cleanup and had the kids come help. It was 2 hours of physical labor and all 3 kids were definitely whining. Kevin and I loved it. Our kids have never had a yard (they were too little to help in our Kuna house), and they need this. Weeding has been incorporated into their Saturday chores and Kevin has taught both Bronx and Tinley to mow the lawn already too. It's the best! They switch off.

  • Sunday was stake conference. It was a bit of a rush to get ready because I forgot to set my alarm, but we got there...only 15 min late! haha

  • Kevin had bought some wood to build projects with the kids, so Sunday night they were out in the garage doing that. He helped Tinley build a bird house, and Bronx built a Minecraft chest. They turned out great!

  • Monday morning we said goodbye to Kevin who had to drive all the way back to Cali (8.5+ hours). He's finishing up his third year pediatric rotation, and then gets to come join us at the end of September. It's going to be a long 6 weeks without him!

  • Kevin actually didn't leave until he went back to Lowe's Monday morning, to get some missing pieces for Tinley's bird house. He finished it for her while she was at school, which was so sweet because she had been sad the previous night when they couldn't finish it.

  • Monday: the kids first full week of school! After school, Bronx got out the mower and mowed the whole yard by himself and did amazing-so proud of him and grateful we get this opportunity to have a yard to take care of and play in!

  • Tuesday: Tinley went swimming for activity days!

  • Wednesday: Bronx went swimming for Young Mens (and these pools are crazy fun cool fancy pools owned by relatives in Highland/Alpine!)

  • Tramp jumping with the sprinkler underneath: pure childhood!

  • Thursday: Jamie Nokleby threw a pool party for the moms! It was so fun to go and hang out and get to know some other women in the neighborhood and ward!

  • Saturday: woke up early to go to Kal's first soccer game! Tinley mowed the lawn all by herself! This night we celebrated the week with ice cream at a new place down the road called Cream Worx. So good! and went to a nearby park. Missing Kevin a lot already!

  • Bronx's week at school got better each day. And by Friday he was playing night games and I met a group of boys from the area who came into the kitchen with Bronx to get waters. Such a fun time for him, I love that he gets to experience these things and have these memories!

So we got a tramp, which has been the best thing ever for our kids as well. It has a net, which has been awesome for letting the babies (Scout, Adailyn, Brooklyn) jump and play on it. Well, the other day I was jumping with the kids, and I was done so I went over and unzipped the net to climb out, and I kid you not in the 5 seconds I did that, and had my hand at the top of the opening, Ryder-who was being chased by Bronx-came zooming by and flipped OUT of that tiny opening. Literally bounced on his back at my feet and flipped over and OUT of that one tiny opening onto his side on the grass. It was all so fast, ironic, and comical looking. Ryder weighs like nothing and he was a rag doll for sure. Luckily he wasn't hurt, and immediately popped up and ran off.

School has also been such a breath of fresh air from our Cali school. Tinley has a girl from her primary church class, also in her school class (blessing!). So this new friend (Charlotte) introduced Tinley to all her other friends at school, and they have just welcomed Tinley with open arms. It makes me so so happy for her! Bronx has been a little slower to make fast friends at school, but he has a good lil neighbor friend next door (same age, different teacher at school), and a few others in the neighborhood, which has been great for him. Praying for him like crazy to find more good friends too.
