Europe: Day 2: Rothenburg, Stuttgart/ Porsche Museum, The Black Forest, Gutach, Triberg

November 24, 2013

I know I am slow at this,
but here is day 2 finally :)

.....................................................................

We slept in Rothenburg Friday night.
The next day we walked around the cute little town some more,
because we hadn't been able to see a lot of it before the sun went down.

The town still had it's wall intact,
that went around the entire city!

There were lots of these little "windows".
Hard to imagine people actually shot arrows through there!
Kevin loooooved seeing this type of stuff all over.
What was also cool,
was seeing all the stuff the Night Watchman had told us about the evening before,
but getting to see it in the daylight.

All the homes reminded me of dollhouses or mini Christmas houses!

Standing on the famous road "Plonlein".

From Rothenburg we drove to Stuttgart,
so that the boys could have some fun in the Porshe factory and museum.

Our bro-in-law, Zach, being Zach.
haha.
What's even better?
See that guy standing behind him?
He had a photographer with him,
and was actually going around to each of the cars and taking pics in them and posing and trying to look "oh-so-cool".
We also saw a bride (she looked gorgeous!) and her groom getting pictures done in front of the cars too!

Yep they loved this place.
And i'm pretty sure we have a picture of every car that was on display...these were just the first ones i loaded up (so sorry babe if they were not your favorites!).
They all looked like giant toy cars because they were so perfect and squeeky clean.

Not that it's important,
but it was here that my left contact started driving me nuts.
Remember how we didn't have our main suitcase yet?
My backup contacts were in there (along with my makeup, hairspray, facewash, toothbrush...!!).
I finally just ripped the dang thing out and went one-eyed/conactless for the rest of the day.
It was kind of torture...and Kevin may or may not have been torched out by my whining about it.
hahah.

From the Porsche museum we drove through part of the Black Forest to get to Gutach.
We had originally planned to go to the open air museum (that was featuring Black Forest homes from several different centuries), but we got distracted when we saw this alpine slide.

It went up and up and up.
I didn't get a good shot of the whole thing,
but you can see how some of it spirals down there on the right.

We rode it three times,
and the last ride was with our hubbys.

That was kind of freaky because they ALL wanted to race and go a million miles a minute.
haha,
the first time i went down,
I had two little kids behind me that had to keep slamming on their breaks cuz i was going so slow.
Poor kids.
bahahah.

(see that kid behind me? he was pretty ticked when he got off, then ran to get in line in front of our group)

It was getting pretty late after we got done with this activity,
so we just drove straight to the next bed and breakfast.
Pension Richebaechli:

After dropping our bags off,
we drove to Triberg to see the world's largest working cuckoo clock!

So there was another - the "original" world's largest cuckoo clock,
that a family had made in this same town,
but then this one was built a short while ago.
We drove to the original one as well,
but couldn't get a pic because the yard was closed (yeah, it was this GIANT clock sitting in their yard facing away from us).

We went and got dinner/groceries from a neighborhood grocery store here.
Then went back to the little hotel,
ate,
talked,
and crashed.
